Workflow Orchestration for AI Coding Agents

Overview

OMX is a lightweight orchestration layer that turns AI coding agents into coordinated development teams. Instead of managing one agent at a time, OMX lets you define roles, delegate tasks, and monitor progress across multiple agents working in parallel.

Built around a keyword-driven role system, OMX uses special directives like $architect, $executor, and $plan to assign responsibilities without complex configuration files. Agents understand their roles from context and coordinate through a shared project state directory.

Key Features

  • Keyword-Driven Roles: Assign agent roles with simple directives like $architect for planning, $executor for implementation, and $plan for generating task breakdowns.
  • Multi-Agent Coordination via tmux: OMX manages agent sessions in tmux panes, allowing you to observe all agents working simultaneously in a single terminal window.
  • Persistent Project State: All plans, decisions, and agent outputs are stored in a .omx/ directory at your project root, providing full audit trails and enabling agents to resume work after interruptions.
  • Team Mode: Launch parallel workers with a single command: omx team 4 "Refactor the auth module" spins up four agents that divide the work automatically.
  • Project-Scoped AGENTS.md: Define persistent agent configurations per project. Each agent's role, constraints, and access permissions are documented in a human-readable markdown file.
  • HUD Monitoring: A real-time heads-up display shows agent status, current tasks, token usage, and error rates across all active sessions.

Getting Started

Install OMX globally via npm:

npm install -g oh-my-codex

Initialize a project:

cd your-project
omx init
omx team 2 "Add unit tests for the user service"

The omx init command creates the .omx/ directory and a default AGENTS.md configuration. From there, you can launch single agents with omx run or coordinate teams with omx team.

Pricing

OMX is free and open source under the MIT license. Enterprise support packages with SLA guarantees and private agent registries are available starting at $49/month per developer seat.
